Our Home Education Story and a Three Month Update

It has been three months since my husband and I made the decision to not send our high functioning autistic 6yo daughter back to school after the half term break. Although her autism wasn’t diagnosed until last year, I’d long had my suspicions that something more than the usual was at the bottom of her incredibly poor sleep and challenging behaviour. Lots of well meaning friends told me that school had been the turning point for their kids, the magic cure that equated to a happier child. One who was so exhausted from all the learning that their sleep problems …

Dear Polly

Dear Polly, Now You Are Ten

Dearest Polly, You’ve felt like this day would never arrive, but it’s here. You’re ten now – the big double digit birthday all your friends have been excitedly chattering about for too long. Unlike other birthdays, where you’ve simply been excited, ten has brought with it a mixed bag of emotions. Like you’re desperate to grow up, but don’t want to, all at once. This weekend I submitted two pieces of flash fiction to UK writing competitions. I’ve also been beavering away on a 5000-ish word short story. It feels sooooo good to be writing again! I spent hours looking for competitions to enter, so thought I’d write up a list for others in the same boat.
 Please note:
Always thoroughly read the guidelines before submitting your entry. I’ve only included comps open to unpublished writers.
I shall update this list as and when new competitions are announced. Best of luck! Monthly competitions Scottish Book Trust | monthly prompt for 50 word piece of …

Paradise Wildlife Park: A Brilliant UK Day Out for all the Family (Broxbourne, Hertfordshire) #ad

If you’re in the market to see animals of all shapes and sizes, I’m pretty sure you’ll love Paradise Wildlife Park. I can see why it’s Europe’s leading zoo, because I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen so much variation under one roof. From reptiles to big cats, penguins to zebras and a life size dinosaur exhibition thrown in for good measure, you’d be hard pressed to not find something for everyone. All three of my children (aged 4-9) were suitably impressed, which is saying something in itself. The park is huge and it was amazing to see how much …

Moving House with Fantastic Services and an Interview with CEO Rune Sovndahl #ad

Fantastic Services have once again been a godsend for my family You may have noticed that it’s been a little quiet around here, and not without good reason. We are gearing up for our first house move in seven years. Since last moving we’ve had two more children and acquired a whole lot of stuff. Packing up and getting ready for the big day tomorrow has been no small job, but thankfully the awesome team at Fantastic Services have been helping us every step of the way. As always the customer experience from the very start has been impeccable. We had …
