Can You Help? #BTBY

wpid-become-the-best-you.jpg.jpegAs you might already know I published a book last year. Part memoir, part self help, Become the Best You had been swirling around in my head for a very long time. After a full on year of writing, editing, editing and more editing, it was finally ready to release at the end of November. I was utterly thrilled that it made it into the Amazon Bestseller Top 50 the week it went on sale, and by early December it already had 15 five star reviews. A big handful of fabulous bloggers raved about the book on their blogs, and some were kind enough to feature me for an interview, like this post here on Honest Mum. All in all it did better in those first few weeks than I had dreamed it would.

As you can imagine, this was all rather exciting, but truth be told, since then I’ve had very few opportunities to promote the book. Or even ask the people that have read it to take a few minutes out of their day to write an Amazon review. Life has been crazy these past few months. There have been big challenges with the kids, lots going on at work, and sleep has truly become a distant memory. Now that half term is over, and 3yo will be at pre – school one day a week that I’m not at work though, I should finally have a little breathing space to do some plugging. I might even get some writing done for the novel, although we’ll have to wait and see about that.

Can you spare a minute to write a review?

So here’s the thing… If you have read and enjoyed the book, please click here and write some kind words to encourage other folk to jump on the bandwagon. A book is nothing these days without loads of positive reviews – each and every one counts.

If you haven’t read Become the Best You then why the devil not?! If you still need persuading, then why don’t you have a read of this excerpt or the synopsis.

Thank you in advance 🙂

Oh hon I feel the same about other books – I have had Emily’s Last Day on my Kindle app for months but still haven’t managed to read it. All in good time as it were xxx

  2. I will read your book. I bloody well will. Time will eventually relinquensh its grip (around my throat) and let me devour the literature.

Or something a little less dramatic.

  16. I wrote many updates during the process which were titled book update – you can have a read of them here: http://www.mummytries.com/?s=book+update&submit=Search

A concise post giving an overview is a good idea though, thank you 🙂

  17. Very impressive! Could you write a post (or have you already written one) on how to write a book (how to manage time, how to organise your work etc.)? Would love to read it!

  18. Just ordered a paper copy for one of my friends. I’m sure she’ll write a good review! xxx

  19. You have done so brilliantly. At the moment I have about 4 books unfinished as I seem to lack the dedication to complete them at the minute but I’ll take a look over the Easter hold when I have a bit more time and of course I will review once I’m done. xx

  20. Way to go that is amazing. I have bought your book & will review once I’ve read it. I hope to be there myself one day. You’re an inspiration x

  21. Good luck with it! You have still done brilliantly, but it’s understandable that you want to do even better. I’m sure people who have read it will be happy to share you a few minutes. x

  22. Thanks so much, hope you enjoy it xx

  23. I haven’t read it but will take a look 🙂

  24. Thanks my lovely, utterly fab xxx

  25. You are fabulous thanks so much xxx

  26. Done, done, done! x

P.S Don’t ever be afraid of self promotion, you should be proud of yourself x

  27. Tee hee I know the feeling! My to read pile is seriously out of control! xx

  28. You did indeed and I’m very grateful honey. Don’t feel you have to write a blog review, you’ve so much else going on xx

  29. Thanks so much lovely, really appreciate it! Clara really enjoyed her first couple of days, think she’ll love it xx

  30. I agree that we should be super proud of our efforts at writing the books in the first place. The term marathon not a sprint keeps coming up, and I’m in agreement. Fortunately our books don’t have a sell by date, so we can just sit back and enjoy the ride 🙂

  31. Hi Rachael, thanks so much for your support, really hope you enjoy the book when you get round to reading it. I’d love to feature as a Mummy Plus, any time, I’m not going anywhere 🙂 xx

  32. Totally know what you mean here, and I don’t even think that they mean to not write the reviews it’s just they are busy and forget. It’s a slow burner for sure… Thanks for the shout out offer hon xx

  33. Thanks lovely, really appreciate that xxx

  34. Don’t be silly hon, it’s not as if you don’t have tons of other stuff going on!! Reading my book is not a prerequisite to being my friend 😉 xxx

  35. I feel like a very bad blog friend because I still haven’t read your book. Me and books don’t get on that well…in that I never find the time to read them. I am really sorry. When I get around to it I will write a review for sure. You should be very very proud of your achievement xxx

  36. I will def write one 🙂 (sorry not to have done it sooner) Xx #thetruthabout

  37. It’s tough, I can relate! And also I’m a complete chicken asking people to leave reviews. Lots of people say they’ve read and enjoyed my book and I never have the guts to say ‘oh please can you leave a review?’. People are busy I guess and some people are more naturally reviewing types than others. It can be a slow burner I think and most of my focus is on the second (nearly ready) and third books now. I think Amazon is strict on registered authors leaving reviews on books because people have manipulated the system in the past (being overly negative or positive about each other’s work) and many reviews are manipulated of course by publishers who have the connections and the means to influence. But I’m always happy to do you a shout out on Twitter when needed xx

  38. Hello lovely! I mentioned a while ago I’d had trouble with the kindle app on my phone but I now have it fixed and have a copy of your book waiting to be read! I have about four books in my immediate list as well as some work related reading so it’s in there but don’t know when I’ll finish it! I will definitely review once I’ve read it all as I’ve no doubt some of the content will relate to my coaching work as well as me personally…. And, whenever that is I will also get in touch to interview you on my blog as a ‘Mummy Plus’ if you’d be interested? It might be a while from now but the marketing is ongoing, right? 🙂 x

  39. I was the same when my book when on Amazon and the buzz was there and it was brilliant and it’s been three years and it’s tough promoting your own book and life gets busy and other people say they will review and do this and that and it never happens. It’s too bad that we both don’t have fancy famous names and publishers behind us to help with the advertising side. But still be so proud of what you did and accomplished already and it will come up and down for your book but it will all be amazing and brilliant process in the end. Thank you so much for linking up to Share With Me #sharewithme

  40. Oh hun, I totally intend reading your book but just haven’t got around to it yet. When I do I will absolutely write a review. xx

Hope your son enjoys pre-school. x

  41. Argh, must finish the review that is still sitting in my drafts 🙂 I did at least remember to write the Amazon one!

  42. I would love to review it for you, but literally have zero reading time and about 4 books waiting to read. You are an inspiration lovely lady xx

  43. Thanks so much Sophie, really appreciate that xx

  44. Ha! Same here, my to read/half started pile is getting out of hand xx

  45. Thanks so much Nikki

  46. Of course, happy to help. Will sort that post out as well.

  47. I think all the promoting is the hardest part of writing a book, from what I can see. I am sure you will get it ‘out there’ in time and what an amazing achievement already! I’m not going to commit to reading it because quite frankly, I can’t seem to finish any books these days! When I know that I can, I will come back to you 🙂 x

  48. This is the bit that terrifies me about the idea of self-publishing… I just have no idea how I’d find the time for marketing on top of everything else! (Not that you don’t have to do some of it with traditional routes anyway…) I think your book is fab though and deserves to go far and wide. I will definitely write a review on Amazon when I get a chance! Xx

  49. I’m not looking for blog reviewers at the moment, but thank you very much for the offer 🙂

  50. Thanks for your lovely review hon, and for helping to spread the word
    Much appreciated xx

  51. Doh must get those answers back to you asap. Sorry lovely, will try and do it tonight while Freddy’s feeding xxx

  52. Thanks lovely, really appreciate that. Funnily enough I was saying to my friend just this morning that I view this book game as a marathon not a sprint. There’s no expiry date with a book like mine xx

  53. Yes, writing and publishing are just one part of a long road I think. I have reviewed it on Amazon but I think it may have got lost in the system somewhere so I’ll pop back and check. A cliche I know, but it’s not a sprint, more of a marathon you’re undertaking, so hang in there xx

  54. I think this says it all about how writing and publishing the book is only the beginning of the journey – there’s always more to do! Sorry you’ve had such a difficult few months, let’s hope March brings easier times! I’ll publish that interview as soon as I get your answers, if you’re still up for it (and feel free to add any extra Q’s that you think might help!). Thanks for linking to #whatimwriting xx

  55. Loved your book and gave it 5 stars / review. I’ll ask a friend to read and review it as well. x

  56. I’d be happy to review your book on my blog if you are interested? (UK based) x
