An Awesome Day

We threw a first birthday come third birthday come delayed ten year anniversary party on Saturday, and it was absolutely fab! It came after a very long and emotional week of ill kids and new levels of sleep deprivation that have been tough to cope with. It was just what was needed to lift my spirits, take stock and make me truly appreciate the important things in my life.

I’m sure I’ll write a more detailed post at some point, but for now I’d like to say a huge and heartfelt thank you to each and every person – 60-odd in total – that came and helped make the day as special as it was. Extra thanks to my team of helpers – hubby (obvs, who is amazeballs and did too much to even begin writing), Trish whose other half and mother in law looked after the girls while we set up and who herself worked tirelessly beside me all day long, my in-laws who stayed behind for the clean up mission, Lizzie for her incredible face painting, Nic who facilitated getting the girls home sans meltdown. Folks who came from as far away as Cambridge, Cardiff and Devon. And everyone in between. You all rock!!!

As I surveyed the crowded room and listened to the happy sounds of kids laughing, adults chatting and people having a great time, I had an epiphany. Although I didn’t have a single blood relative to share this lovely day with I didn’t need any. With friends like mine, who needs ‘family’?

  9. Awesome indeed. Good friends (especially local ones) are just as important as family – after all, they choose to be with you rather than being tied by blood. When the first of our three was born, we had only moved in to the area nine months before and lived just far enough away from family that the network of fellow parents we built up through pre-natal groups was absolutely invaluable, and it says a lot that seven years later we’re still friends with many of them.

  10. It sounds like just the pick-me-up you needed after what was a rough week of ill kids. It’s great that you’ve got a great circle of friends and the party was a hit. Popping over from Magic Moments.
