Book Update: Almost There!

Book Update: Almost There!

After a bit of a panic last week I cracked on, worked hard on the book and handed it over to an editor this morning. She is going to give it a thorough once over and help me get it up to publishing standards. Sophie’s post last week really struck a chord with me, and I realised I was in danger of nit picking and potentially doing it more harm than good. Definitely time to hand it over to someone else. Watch this space. By the way you do realise that I’ll be counting on you (yes YOU) to help me sell the …

Book update: did I make my deadline?

Book update: did I make my deadline?

The short answer to the question in the title is no, I didn’t. When I first started writing my weekly book updates two months ago Halloween seemed like a reasonable date to press the self-publish button. Then my baby started waking up to ten times every night and beginning my day before 5am didn’t seem quite as appealing. Then I went back to work and had even less time to write. Then in a flash of inspiration a few weeks ago I added a whole new section to the book, which has needed to go through the edit process. In …

Book Update: Nearly There!

Book Update: Nearly There!

Regular readers will know that this time last week my main site was completely offline – after a massive panic I managed to get it back up just in time for my redesign to go live. On Thursday night I posted this which revealed my identity. It was an exhilarating experience which left me buzzing.  I have been truly blown away by the amazing comments you lovely people have left on my post, thank you so much! I’ve been reading each one as they come through, and they’ve all made me smile. I’m still working on the replies, but will get there. After the excitement I had …

Book Update Four: Why and Who?

Book Update Four: Why and Who?

When I first started writing my book last year I reached out to my favourite psychologist and author to ask for his advice. I’m truly touched that he took the time to respond and have held his words close ever since. One of the things he said was to not lose sight of why I’m writing the book and for whom it is intended for. Such simple wisdom, but I can imagine it would be too easy to do if you weren’t aware of it. Why have I written this book? I didn’t go to uni but during the years …

Book Update Three: Full Introduction

Book Update Three: Full Introduction

Last week I sent my book off to a professional editor to have a constructive critique. I paid extra for a quick turnaround and it will be back by next Monday (hopefully sooner!) so I will fill you in on what he has said in my update next week. Looks like this was a good move, because one of the agencies I sent my first three chapters to have requested I send them the full manuscript. I’ve been pretty chuffed – it came at the perfect time and was a very welcome boost that I’d been in need of. I’m crossing fingers now that I …
